I think that Zhu in his essay “A Different View of Hackers” is trying to convey an evaluation and ethical argument. I think that because if you are a hacker you have to ask yourself if you really want to do it and evaluate yourself on if it is the right thing to do or not. Hacking is something most people fear of happening to them while hackers view it as a job or something that keeps them occupied. Zhu in the essay states that the third generation of hackers would hack to “obtain free software, games, and other programs.” Companies that supply these things often have a copyright code that they use to try and keep these hackers out; the hackers then try to break the code in order to get these copies for free. Zhu also in the essay talks about the fourth generation hacker which is people who criminally hack. This is the kind that most people fear since it can have the worst outcome for a person. These hackers tend to go for personal things such as when you use your credit card or bank account number online.
