Over the course of the semester, I learned new ways on writing as well as had an exposure to new ideas. The new ways on writing I learned involved the ethos, pathos, and logos. Using those, my writing gains a feeling that the audience or myself can sense. I personally prefer to use ethos because it has the emotional appeal and I tend to like that more. The exposure to new ideas I had was that there are many different subcultures, ones that I would not have otherwise classified as a subculture such as hackers or hobos. I would have never thought before that being a hobo could be a chosen lifestyle. I always associated a hobo with a homeless person but they in essence are two very different groups. Having to write about the different subcultures also helped bring a different viewpoint so that I can understand some people better. The way I wrote things did not change much at all. I still continued to keep the same habits that I had in high school when it came to writing papers. I started to realize that I need to change those as doing so will help me be more successful in college and life in general. Not only do those habits put stress on me, they also can have an effect on the outcome of what I am producing. Changing my writing habits will have to be an ongoing thing and I will need to work hard at it. I think that having a small class turned out to be more like a support system as everyone would talk about or give ideas to each other to help. That really helped me out because when I did not do something someone like Derek, Andrea, or Morgan would ask about it and tell me I need to do it. Overall, I view that this class helped me learn a lot on writing and how to be successful with it through out the rest of college and life.
